Pearl Jam - Black

Yesterday I experienced along with a sold-out Globe Arena a completely incomparable evening with Pearl Jam. That it was no less than 12 years since the band was on stage in Sweden, so this was more than welcome. The band lined up hit after hit during their set and played 30 songs (see the setlist below), a concert that lasted for about 2h 50m, it was like you were in heaven, what a magical evening it was. That this is quickly taking over the throne as the year's primary gig is there no talk about.

Pearl Jam is an American rock band that formed in Seattle, Washington, in 1990. Since its inception, the band's line-up has included Eddie Vedder (vocals), Stone Gossard (guitar), Jeff Ament (bass), and Mike McCready (guitar). The band's current drummer is Matt Cameron, also of Soundgarden, who has been with the band since 1998.

Todays tune "Black" is taken from the band's debut album, Ten (1991). Featuring lyrics written by vocalist Eddie Vedder and music written by guitarist Stone Gossard, "Black" is a soliloquy by a broken-hearted man, who is remembering his absent lover.

"Black" became one of Pearl Jam's best known songs and is a central emotional piece on the album Ten. Despite pressure from Epic Records, the band refused to make it into a single, feeling that it was too personal and the feeling of it would be lost by a video or a single release. Vedder stated that "fragile songs get crushed by the business. I don't want to be a part of it. I don't think the band wants to be part of it."

Jag känner faktiskt riktig sorg över att jag missade det här.

Det var magiskt! Men som det lät på mr Vedder så skulle det inte dröja 12 år tills nästa gång.
