Witchcraft - Flag Of Fate

Number 1 on the seasonal best album list on Tune Of The Day, goes to the Swedish doom metal/stoner rock band "Witchcraft" with their album "Legend".

Witchcraft is a Swedish doom metal band from Örebro founded 2000th The self-titled debut album was in 2004.

Magnus Pelander (formerly the Northern Lights) founded Witchcraft, 2000, from the beginning to with a single, celebrate their idols Bobby Liebling (Pentagram) and Roky Erickson. This single, "No Angel or Demon", was released by Primitive Art Records 2002 Besides Pelander as a singer and guitarist consisted the band then also of John Hoyles (guitar), Jens Henriksson (drums) and Ola Henriksson (bass). Shortly after wrote Witchcraft contract with Rise Above Records.

Their debut album, Witchcraft (2004), was worked on in a basement studio with vintage equipment, which gave them their very seventies-esque sound. Mats left the band almost immediately after the recording was done. Mats was also the drummer in the surf trio "The Hollywoods" and 50's rockin "Eva Eastwood and the Major Keys". In mid-2004, the band toured Europe with Orange Goblin and Grand Magus. The band recorded their second album, Firewood, in England, which was released on Rise Above in 2005. That same year the band toured the UK in support of Corrosion of Conformity, backed by the "Chylde of Fire" single.

In mid-2006, Jones Arnesén left the band and was replaced by original drummer, Jens Henriksson. The band toured the US in latter part of 2006 with Danava. During this tour, on November 11, 2006, Witchcraft performed at the Rock and Roll Hotel in Washington, DC. For their encore they played Pentagram covers ("When the Screams Come" and "Yes I Do") with Bobby Liebling on vocals.

Following their US tour they returned to the studio and recorded the single "If Crimson Was Your Colour". This was released on 7" vinyl by Rise Above on November 6, 2006. Following the single Jens Henriksson once again left Witchcraft and was replaced by Fredrik Jansson (formerly of Abramis Brama).

Their third album, The Alchemist, was released on October 8, 2007 by Rise Above Records (UK), Leaf Hound Records (Japan), and Candlelight Records (US). Shortly after The Alchemist, Witchcraft released a split 12" with The Sword on Kemado Records. The EP features versions of two previously banned in Sweden songs. The cult played the front stage on the one day Ozzfest 2009.

In 2010 Magnus Pelander released a four track solo EP via Svart Records and is currently working on the solo full length album. Current member Ola Henriksson along with former members John Hoyles and Jens Henriksson formed a new band called Troubled Horse and released a 7" single in early 2010. John Hoyles is also in a band with the drummer of Graveyard called Spiders. Jens Henriksson is also in The Wait a band with Joakim Dimberg bass player for Dead Man.

In May 2012, the band announced that they had signed with Nuclear Blast Records. Their fourth studio album, Legend, was released in September 2012.

The new album marked the recording debut of the band's new members, including Simon Solomon (guitar), Tom Jondelius (guitar), and Oscar Johansson (drums), with singer Magnus Pelander focusing only on vocals instead of both vocals and guitar.

The new album was released on double vinyl, with a special edition purple vinyl limited to 250 hand numbered copies

Legend is like a predator, full of pride, majestic, mysterious and cunning. That tells a thoughtful story without losing focus and fall outside. It is beautifully balanced and the dynamics and melodic to perfection, an album where all the cylinders fall into place.

Todays tune "Flag Of Fate" is taken from Witchcrafts fourth album "Legend". The album was released September 25th, 2012. Unable to find a proper video for the song so it had to be a little funny one, this is a guy who has recorded his own video with his Super 8 camera, stylish Vinyl!.

Rival Sons - Until the Sun Comes

Number 2 on the seasonal best album list on Tune Of The Day, goes to the American Blues-Rock band "Rival Sons" with their album "Head Down".

In 2007 Scott Holiday left his previous band and signed with Atlantic Records to form a band in a more hard rock/blues rock vein. Teaming with drummer Mike Miley and bassist Robin Everhart, they set off in search of a vocalist. Holiday discovered Jay Buchanan and suggested him to the band. Miley had known Buchanan for years, and asked him to join the band; after initially declining, Buchanan agreed to join.

In June 2009 the band digitally self-released their first album, Before the Fire. In 2010 the band signed with Earache Records and released a self-titled EP, followed by their first full length, Pressure & Time. In 2012, the band played on the second stage at Download Festival before again entering the studio for a recording session for their latest album. Head Down was released on September 17, 2012 and lead to a tour of Europe

Rival Sons is not just a retro nostalgia band, far from it. With their influences have they created something of their own, and with "Head Down", the band has developed and does it with panache. With their innovative rock of artistic achievement, the album is a must in the record shelf.

Todays tune "Until the Sun Comes" is taken from Rival Sons third studio album "Head Down"

Alcest - Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles

Number 3 on the seasonal best album list on Tune Of The Day, goes to the French Post-Black Metal/Shoegazing band "Alcest" with their album "Les Voyages De L'Âme".

Alcest was born in Bagnols-sur-Cèze, France, founded and led by Neige (Stéphane Paut). It began in 2000 as a black metal solo project by Neige, soon a trio, but following the release of their first demo in 2001, band members Aegnor and Argoth left the band, leaving Neige as the sole member.

This marked a change in style, as Alcest's subsequent releases have more often been described as shoegazing mixing numerous rock and metal influences, including black metal and post-metal. In 2009 the ex-Peste Noire's drummer Winterhalter (now in Les Discrets) joined Alcest's studio line-up, after eight years with Neige as the sole full time member. On the following tours, he was followed by the ex-Peste Noire's bass guitarist Indria and co-guitarist Zero. Since its creation, Alcest has released three studio albums.

"Les Voyages De L'Âme" contains a wonderful combination of atmospheric layers of aesthetic beautiful melodies and a limbo lounge by the black darkness that make up this year's most emotional album.

Alcest - that is music from another world, a world that is real, but that exists beyond ours and cannot be grasped by our senses. A world where all appearances - trees, glades, streams - emit a pearly light and where a faraway and celestial music fills the air like sweet perfume. A world inhabited by infinitely benevolent and protective beings of light, communicating in a wordless 'language' directly from one soul to another. A world where the soul knows neither pain nor sickness nor sorrow, but is filled with a deep peace and an ineffable bliss. A world that lies 'before' and 'after,' 'beside' and 'behind' our world and the awareness of which stills mankind's fears of death.

This world is no dream and no fantasy. Neige, the creative mind of Alcest, knows it - he has experienced it and keeps memories of how it revealed itself to him in the form of esoteric experiences in his early life. Alcest is his medium to come to terms with these memories and to share them with others.

Todays tune "Là Où Naissent Les Couleurs Nouvelles" is taken from Alcest's third album "Les voyages de l'âme" ("The Journeys of the Soul"), released on January 6, 2012.

Baroness - March To The Sea

Number 4 on the seasonal best album list on Tune Of The Day, goes to the Savannah, Georgia rock band "Baroness" with their album "Yellow & Green".

"Yellow & Green" is a new era of Baroness, the former a bit "more aggressive output" has been toned down to a more artistic approach. The record is like the weekly pills box, where we take a yellow pill in the morning and one green in the evening. This is almost 80 minutes long trip, where Baroness shows off their sense of melody and unpredictable songwriting with a great vision for their work.

Baroness formed in mid-2003, founded by former members of the punk/metal band Johnny Welfare and the Paychecks. Singer John Dyer Baizley creates the artwork for all Baroness albums, and has done artwork for other bands and labels such as Darkest Hour, The Red Chord, Vitamin X, Skeletonwitch, Sounds of the Underground, Kylesa, Kvelertak, Black Tusk, Daughters, Torche, Pig Destroyer, and the Magrudergrind/Shitstorm split grindcore CD on Robotic Empire.

From 2004 to 2007, Baroness recorded and released three EPs, named First, Second and A Grey Sigh in a Flower Husk (aka Third), with the third one being a split album with Unpersons.

Todays tune "March To The Sea" is taken from the third studio album "Yellow & Green". The double album was released on July 17, 2012.
